Unless you are from a visa-waiver country, you will need to apply for a Visa
before you come to New Zealand.
When you apply for a visa, you must be;
in good health

be a bona fide temporary visitor.
This must be valid for at least three months after you leave New Zealand, or one month past the date you will leave New Zealand if the government issuing your passport has consular representation in New Zealand.
Proof You Plan to Leave
You will need to be able to show that you intend to leave New Zealand within the period of your visa. This may be through showing travel tickets (confirmed or open ended) out of New Zealand to a country which you have the right to enter or written confirmation from an airline or travel agency that onward travel has been booked and paid for.
Proof of Funds
You will need to show that you have enough money to support yourself for the length of your stay.
This means you have a minimum of:
NZ$1000 per person per month of the visit, or
NZ$400 per person per month if accommodation has already been paid for – you will need t provide proof of prepayment, such as hotel prepaid vouchers.
Sufficient funds can be in the form of:
recognised credit cards with sufficient credit available – we recommend that visitors have an up-to-date credit card statement.
Length of Stay.
Allowable length can vary depending on the country you are from and the type of visa (if required). In general, visitors can stay 3 months within any 12 month period. If you plan to stay longer, we strongly recommend you read Immigration New Zealand's information for visitors in full.
During your stay
If you are granted a visitor visa you need to meet certain conditions during your stay.
You may not work while you are in New Zealand (unless you are granted a work visa).
You may not study for more than three months while you are in New Zealand (unless you are granted a student visa).
You must keep within New Zealand’s laws.
